The midfielder has missed the Blues’ last three matches, against Manchester City and Aston Villa in the Premier League and Liverpool in the second leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final, with a hamstring problem.

Although they have not lost in his absence the Stamford Bridge outfit will still want him back in the starting XI as soon as possible.

“I think Fabregas will play on Wednesday because against Villa the decision was to protect him,” the 52-year-old told reporters. “I didn’t want to risk two players at the same time because Willian had a minor problem from the previous game and was also a risk. To start two players who were a risk was a big gamble, so we gambled with just one.”

Apparently the Spaniard only missed the match versus the Villains as a precaution, and he is now ready to face the Toffees in the mid-week fixture.

The 27-year-old has been a key figure for the London side since arriving in the summer, with 18 assists and four goals in 28 appearances.
