Arsene Wenger is thought to have lost patience with both of his current stoppers. Szczesny has been in trouble for disciplinary reasons, while there are some doubts over Ospina’s ability to deal with the extra physicality associated with life in the Premier League.

With this in mind the Frenchman has been on the lookout for a player to put between the sticks.

The 65-year-old has apparently settled on 22-year-old Leno as the man for the job, however, Leverkusen could demand over £25 million for the goalie.

He is a regular in their side having played all of their 20 Bundesliga fixtures, conceding just 22 times.

With the Gunners no longer averse to spending big on players the hefty valuation may not be such a stumbling block.
