It was the Italian’s first goal in the Premier League since signing for the Reds in the summer. He had already scored in the League Cup and Champions League, but even so has been designated a flop in his first campaign. However, Rush believes that Balotelli will find his feet.

The club legend said, “He’s been patient, Brendan has played him at the right times so I’m pleased for him to get the winner. The crowd have always been behind him so I think we just need to get behind him.”

He added, “Even after he scored the goal he was running around and closing down and he seemed to have an extra spring in his step. Hopefully that’s the start of many more to come from him.”

Liverpool are now just three points off the top four, and a good run of results should see the team make up more ground on the sides around them.

Their win against Spurs was especially important as it puts them just one point behind the North London club in the Premier League.
