The two side’s fought out an entertaining top four clash last night at Anfield which the Reds won 3-2  and the two will again duke it out, this time in the transfer market, as they both target the Venezuelan forward, reports Daily Star.

Both teams have their history with flop forwards with the likes of Roberto Soldado, Fabio Borini and Emmanuel Adebayor all causing a stink in recent appearances.

The 25-year-old only signed for Zenit 12 months ago in a £15.8 million deal from fellow Russian club Rubin Kazan, however just twelve months later Rondon is said to be looking for an exit.

Both sides have been linked with £40m rated Jackson Martinez in the past, a fellow South American forward, but Rondon would certainly present a more affordable option with similarly impressive stats despite Martinez revealing he’s set to leave Porto in the summer.

So far this season, Rondon has managed seven goals and two assists in the league and one in the Champions League.

And it could come down to the Champions League when determining which side manages to acquire his services as both side’s look to secure a vital top four finish to fulfil their European ambitions..
