Sturridge eager to improve…

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge reveals that he has a DVD collection of footballing greats, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Thierry Henry, that he regularly watches in an effort to continue to improve as a forward.

The England international has had an injured-plagued campaign so far, following an explosive last season with the Reds, scoring 21 goals in 29 appearances.

The 25-year-old claims he watches legendary strikers over five or 10 times to learn from the very best of the game:

“I still watch other players. I’ll watch the same person over five, 10 times,” Sturridge told BT Sport.

“I’ve got DVDs of Ronaldo, of Henry, of you, Fowler, Bergkamp…. the list goes on, Ruud van Nistelrooy. So many different players, I still watch the clips, still watch the moves.”

Sturridge also paid credit to former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti during his frustrating time with the Blues:

“I remember when I was at Chelsea and Ancelotti used to say ‘watch a DVD of Inzaghi’ – movement in terms of runs in behind and what makes strikers score goals,” the 25-year-old continued.

“I used to like to come short and play passes and be more involved in the game, but as time goes on you realise playing on the shoulder does create opportunities, not just for yourself but for your team-mates too.”
