The Villains dropped into the relegation zone on Tuesday night after losing 2-0 to Hull City in what turned out to be the Scot’s final game in charge, However, supporters had been calling for the 45-year-old’s head since December and it seems that owner Randy Lerner has finally caved to their demands.

They are particularly unhappy with the Midlands side’s inability to regularly score goals. They have only managed 12 this season, which is the lowest after 25 games in Premier League history according to the BBC. The total is also a massive 10 less than the current next lowest Sunderland and Leicester City.

Fans were also displeased with the way in which Lambert discarded players such as Darren Bent, Charles N’Zogbia, and Shay Given to the sidelines. Most recently he dropped Christian Benteke to the bench, a bizarre decision when you consider how poor Villa’s goal-scoring record is.

Tim Sherwood and Jurgen Klinsmann could be in the running to become the new boss of the relegation strugglers.

Sherwood was recently overlooked for the vacant QPR post and is still available, while Klinsmann has been doing an impressive job with the US national team that could earn him a club job.
