United boss Louis Van Gaal has identified several names to help strengthen his defence and the Brazilian has been one of the names to top his wish list.

Reports had linked the starlet stopper with a January move to Old Trafford, and the club made two late moves to snap him up, but PSG held firm and he has since remained in the French capital.

And with Van Gaal said to be lining up another £30m approach in the summer, PSG are said to be putting together a new contract for the 20-year-old in a bid to end United’s interest.

Marquinhos recently said that he would be open to a move to England at some point in his career – quotes that bookies have taken particular interest in.

“The Premier League is viewed all around the world,” he said.

“There is even some children in Brazil who grow up supporting English teams.

“There have been some discussions with English clubs, but right now I’m with PSG.”
