The match, which was held at Parque Central in Montevideo, was suspended temporarily due to tear gas seeping in from outside the stadium; a result of the police dispersing a group of fans who got a little out of control.

The game was played in an empty stadium due to a ban from CONMEBOL, a ban enforced because of incidents in March last year during a game against Newell’s Old Boys.

The game was later resumed, and although Palestino lost 2-1 on the night, they managed to qualify for the group stage of the Copa Libertadores after progressing on away goals following a 2-2 aggregate draw.
