Fans turn on Hammers coach after humbling defeat…

Sam Allardyce’s future at the helm of West Ham is on shaky ground after his own supporters turned on him following a harrowing 4-0 defeat to West Brom in the FA Cup.

The Hammers went to the Hawthorns with high hopes after a more that successful than season so far – they currently sit eighth in the league and this was just their second defeat in 10 games.

However, the east London side went in at the break against Tony Pulis’ side 2-0 down and finished the match with ten men and having conceded four goals.

Allardyce claimed that a rough fixtures list had left his side lacking energy as well as having to contend with key absences such as that of Andy Caroll.

“When you come and see the performance and it isn’t as good as we have been this season the fans express their disappointment,” said Allardyce, reports Daily Express.

“I will defend the players as they couldn’t cope with the fixture list.”

However, this defeat couldn’t come at a more embarrassing time for the coach after he claimed he was one of the most sophisticated managers in the Premier League and just a week after his ‘long ball’ jibes at Manchester United’s Louis van Gaal.

“I don’t think there is any coach more sophisticated than me anymore,” said Allardyce earlier this week, reports the Express.

“That’s not trying to criticise any other coaches but there is only Arsene [Wenger] who has done it longer than me.
