Bellerin has overtaken the Englishman.

Theo Walcott is undoubtedly quick, but the England international has lost his tag as the fastest player at Arsenal to emerging youngster Hector Bellerin.

Despite the presence of speedsters like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck at the Emirates Stadium, it’s relatively well known that Walcott has been the quickest at the club for some time.

Yet not only has Bellerin beaten off competition to become first choice at right-back currently, but now the 19-year-old has also stolen this particular crown from his English team-mate.

“There are some people who are just born quick and some people that are born slower,” the Spaniard was quoted by the Daily Mail.

“But I worked a lot on my speed and power with the conditioning coach last year – that’s something which has helped me a lot.

“The work that you don’t see, in the shadows, really shows on the pitch. My time over 40 metres was the fastest.

“It’s something I didn’t expect – we were just having a test and then they told me I was the fastest at the club.

“It’s nice to be able to say that I’m the quickest player.”

It’s been a real breakthrough season for Bellerin in 2014/15, who due to long-term injuries to Mathieu Debuchy has been given a longer spell in the starting XI than perhaps many expected.

The Spanish defender has greatly impressed during his 15 appearances so far for the North Londoners this term.
