In-Form Arsenal Forward Stresses That Defence Is Key To Club Success

Giroud has recently admitted that he struggles with his self-confidence.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has stressed that the way his team-mates defend will be key to the rest of the season, despite the attacking prowess the squad contains.

Giroud is in wonderful form, scoring 10 goals in his last 12 starts and added a two goals to his tally at the weekend following his brace against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

However, the Frenchman believes defending as a team is key to how Arsenal will finish the season, as Giroud believes goals are a certainty for his side.

“It’s a pleasure to play with the boys and I think we are really strong offensively,” Giroud told Arsenal.com

“[We need to] do a great job together defensively as a unit, like we showed at Manchester City, it’s a good idea to do it again and again, especially against big teams.

“We need to be focused on our defensive game, because we know that up front we are always going to create chances to score.”

Despite Giroud’s comments, perhaps attack maybe the best form of defence for Arsenal given the quality they possess up front and could potentially emulate Liverpool’s end of season run last team.

With the likes of Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Ozil capable of supporting Giroud up front, goals will not be hard to come by.
