Van Gaal is on the look-out for creative midfield talents and is armed with a hefty transfer kitty and would do well to bring in either Strootman or Pogba, let alone both!

Strootman is clearly the less ‘creative’ of the pair but the Dutch international is however perhaps a more rounded midfield option with the Stadio Olimpico star capable of getting stuck in whilst also offering a real weapon in the final third.

Clearly van Gaal knows the 25 year old well from his time in charge of the Netherlands national team set-up though fears over the player’s long term fitness may prove a stumbling block.

The former PSV Eindhoven man missed eight months of 2014 with a knee injury and since returning from that spell out the rangy midfielder has suffered subsequent relapses and is set for knee surgery.

21 year old Pogba left Man United for Turin in the summer of 2012 and hasn’t looked back, the French international maturing into arguably the most sought after youngster in world football, and a move to bring the youngster back to Man United won’t come cheap.

Some sources value Pogba as high as £70m though his form over the past two and a half seasons suggest that price-tag to be a fair one.

Van Gaal has already made significant moves to re-shuffle his midfield having signed both Daley Blind and Ander Herrera last summer whilst shipping out Tom Cleverley to Aston Villa and selling Anderson and Darren Fletcher in the January transfer window.
