LVG ready to beat Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool to the punch.
Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani is the main summer target of Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, reports Daily Express.
Despite his Champions League heroics against Chelsea, which saw him head PSG back into the tie with the equalising goal, Cavani is continually being linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes.
The Uruguayan is said to be on the way out because of a Christmas spat which saw him return to training late after the festive period.
And the Express says van Gaal is prepared to use this to his advantage and target the 28-year-old after growing irate with on-loan, AS Monaco flop Radamel Falcao.
The United boss has further striking problems with Robin van Persie failing to remain fit for an entire reason and, despite Monday’s 3-1 win over Preston which saw him return to an upfront role, LVG continually wants to employ Rooney in midfield.
Any move for the South American would cost a reported £45 million.
