Louis van Gaal feels that the England international is perfect to fit in at either full-back or wing-back, however, with four years left on current contract Tottenham are likely want a massive transfer fee for the 24-year-old.

With this in mind the Red Devils are also looking at Southampton’s Clyne, who will be cheaper as there will only be 12 months on his deal come the summer.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form for the Saints this season, earning himself his first England cap.

United are in need of new defenders as they have had to rely on the amazing form of goalkeeper David De Gea for the majority of the current campaign.
