Their latest acquisition is 22-year-old FC Nantes forward Fernando Aristeguieta, who will join the side as a “Young Designated Player”, thus giving his new club a degree of flexibility with regards to the league-imposed salary cap.

It is unclear how long the loan is expected to last, though the French club confirmed that the Union would have an option to buy the young striker once the deal expired.

The Venezuela international scored 9 times in 47 appearances for Nantes, helping the side win promotion to France’s top flight – Ligue Un – in the process. Prior to moving to Europe he played for Venezuelan side Caracas, a side for whom he bagged an impressive 31 goals in 71 games. He is the only player in history to score a hat-trick in the Venezuelan clasico between Caracas and Deportivo.

He’s played 12 times for his national side.

Philadelphia begin their 2015 season with a home game against Colorado Rapids on 7th March.
