The Portuguese tactician still is only two years into his current deal, but the Stamford Bridge club will act quickly to secure his long-term future by tying him down until 2020.

Mourinho has already dropped hints that he would be ready to commit himself to the club beyond the expiration of his present deal, though any terms could rest on what silverware they pick up come the end of the season.

With the Blues leading the Premier League, they are also still involved in the Champions League as well as booking a place in the Capital One Cup final against Spurs next month, so chairman Roman Abramovic is hopeful of the club picking up at least one trophy.

If anything is agreed, though, Mourinho will likely see an increase on his current salary of £3.5m-per-season.
