Louis van Gaal is seemingly keen to bring in a player to fill the right-sided defensive berth with the likes of Rafael and Luis Antonio Valencia failing to impress, however, the Dutch boss will have to see off interest in Danilo from local rivals Man City.

The 23 year old Brazilian is also being tracked by Real Madrid with his Portuguese employers looking to secure around £20m for the player.

Van Gaal invested over £150m in new additions over the summer, and then brought in experienced keeper Victor Valdes in January, though it seems the Man United manager is keen to once again dig deep into the club’s coffers to help improve his squad.

Danilo moved to the Portuguese capital in 2012 and has been a virtual ever present and is now a regular in Dunga’s national team set-up.

A move to Man United may tempt Danilo, who has 18 months to run on his FC Porto contract.
