The defender is currently on loan at Southampton from Atletico Madrid, and the Saints have an option to sign him in the summer. With the 25-year-old preforming well this season it is likely that they will want to take this up.
However, the La Liga champions have the option to stop the South Coast from doing this by paying a compensatory fee. If Atleti were to do this it would allow them to create an auction amongst the versatile defender’s Premier League suitors. Alderweireld is thought to want to stay in the division.
