World football governing body likely to ratify recommendation of it’s own ‘task-force’.
FIFA have all but confirmed that the 2022 World Cup will take place in the winter according to the BBC.
Football’s world governing body had set up a ‘task-force’ looking into the feasibility of a summer tournament in Qatar and perhaps unsurprisingly they have ruled that such a move would ‘endanger’ the health of players an supporters alike.
Taskforce chief Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa has recommended that the 2022 tournament take place in November and December, a move that is sure to have ramifications on the European club footballing calendar.
There had been talk of the tournament taking place in January or February but the fact that such a move would clash with the Winter Olympics has effectively left only a November/December window for the showpiece event.
