Barcelona face Man City in the last 16 of the Champions League this week, with the first leg at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

Pique was full of praise for his opposition, saying “It’s the most important game of the year. City are one of the world’s top five clubs. We have to take it very seriously, defend well and make the most of the players that we have up front. We want to have the ball, but our possession will depend on how they play too”.

The centre back also touched on Barca’s shock weekend loss to Malaga, saying that the players had already put the disappointment behind them.

“The loss the other day wasn’t as painful as the one at the Anoeta” he said.

“The team are playing well, but the one at the Anoeta was harder to take because Real Madrid had just lost and we weren’t able to win to cut the gap”.

Kick off at the Etihad is at 7:45pm local time.
