The Tunisia international was formerly a target Spurs’ fierce rivals Arsenal, but with the Gunners dropping their interest it leaves the way clear for Mauricio Pochettino to pounce. The 25-year-old will be hoping to prove Arsene Wenger wrong for moving on when he plays at the Emirates for the French club on Wednesday.

When asked whether he knew of the North London club’s interest, Abdennour said: “Yes, I am aware of it. But I am at Monaco and I am concentrating on my club.”

He was also asked if he would join the Premier League team, and answered: “Why not? Right now I have to be patient. Things will happen naturally. I am not going to put any pressure on myself because I am very happy at Monaco.”

The centre-back played in the Ligue 1 team’s Champions League group stage campaign, in which they only conceded one goal in six matches. The impressive defensive record means that they have only had to score a miniscule four goals in the competition so far.
