Christian Suarez was the hero for Atlas as the Ecuadorian came off the bench to score the winning goal in the 81st minute.

“I am full of joy, to be able to play and score the goal in such an important game like this is amazing. But we must continue working, we know that there still a lot to be done” he said after the game.

Atlas manager Tomas Boy said the 1-0 win over Atletico Mineiro wasn’t as decisive as it could have been thanks to a host of missed opportunities.

“I think the score fell a little short, we had many opportunities. We are a team that plays very quickly with the ball, working well together, and we made life difficult for them. I think that is the hallmark of the team” said Boy.

For Boy, yesterday’s victory vindicates his team after they lost 1-0 at home against Colombian side Santa Fe last week.
