The Daily Star carries quotes from one inside source, who claimed: “Arsene usually is very composed after a defeat but he was furious at the manner of this one. He vented his anger on everyone.”

According to the source, Wenger was the angriest he’d been in years. The 65-year-old saw his team concede twice on the counter attack, the last of which came just minutes after they’d pulled themselves back into the game through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s stoppage time strike.

The Star also suggests that the players were unsettled by the Frenchman’s decision to play youngster Hector Bellerin at right-back in place of England international Calum Chambers.

Captain Per Mertesacker added after the game: “We started the second-half on the front foot, but at times it was too much and that was a bit naive.”
