The Chilean tactician was questioned about the Belgian defender’s bad match in the midweek defeat to Barcelona, and says that an experienced player such as him has to deal with question marks about his performances.

“Vincent is an experienced player with a strong character,” Pellegrini said. “He must receive the criticism that everyone receives when our team doesn’t have the performance that everyone hopes for.

“I think it’s not a problem for him, I am sure that he will have a strong reaction. Everyone can see the game in a different way. Media have the right to criticise. All the individual performances I analyse with the players.”
