West Ham Boss Sam Allardyce Bemoans Woeful Defending During Crystal Palace Defeat

Allardyce relationship with the West Ham fans remains tense.

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce vented post-match following his team’s 3-1 home defeat against Crystal Palace.

All three of Crystal Palace’s goals came from set-pieces and the Hammers boss is upset that the basics of the game weren’t adhered to.

Having squandered a 2-0 away lead to Spurs during the last 10 minutes, West Ham were looking for a positive response at Upton Park where they’ve been relatively strong this season.

“I’m shocked,” Allardyce admitted after the game (via Mirror Football).

“Our level of performance wasn’t where I expected it to be. It’s disappointing when we’ve built expectation levels so high at home. It’s about the basics, really.

“If we don’t play to our best, we’ll struggle. We warned the lads about Crystal Palace’s set plays because 50% of their goals have come from set-plays. And we’ve conceded from two corners and a free-kick.”

Players who have produced consistent performances this season were off the pace and Allardyce will certainly not be happy with the likes of Alex Song and Steward Downing.
