The Welshman has a history of hamstring problems, and has missed four months of the season so far with issues related to the area. The 24-year-old has returned to the first team squad for their match with QPR on Wednesday, but he may need to be introduced slowly to stop the problem recurring.

When asked if the issue was solved, Wenger said: “We think yes. When you have a repetition of muscular injuries, it can put the handbrake on your body a little bit. To get rid of that is a psychological problem. I don’t think he suffers from that looking at him in training. Certainly, you lose a bit of confidence in your body.”

The Gunners will hope that the midfielder is fully fit come their FA Cup clash with Manchester United on Monday. The North London club have only beaten the Red Devils twice since 2008, and will need their best players on the pitch to have a chance. Louis van Gaal has already continued the terrible run with a 2-1 victory at the Emirates earlier this campaign.
