The 23-year-old has been told by the Catalan club’s hierarchy that he can leave the side at the end of the season and Everton have emerged as prime candidates for his signature.

Despite only featuring  four times for the club since the turn of the year, Roberto was denied an exit in the January transfer window after then Stoke attempted to acquire his signature.

Barcelona blocked the move but Roberto has then failed to make an impact.

His current contract expires in 2019 so you’d expect a higher than average fee for someone his age but Everton are keen to capture him and bolster their squad.

Everton fans will be hoping he has a similar impact to another Barcelona star, Gerard Deulofeu was a revelation for the Toffees last season during his loan spell and was the driving force behind their top four charge.

His presence has been sadly missed but perhaps Roberto can fill his teammates boots on Merseyside.
