OM currently sit third in the French top flight, having played 27 games. They find themselves on 50 points, four points behind league leaders Olympique Lyonnais and three behind Paris Saint-Germain.

However, the southern giants have stuttered in recent fixtures. They have won only one of their last five matches, drawing three and losing one of their last four.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Bielsa has reassured fans and journalists alike that OM are not feeling the effects of a long season.

“I believe that physically, the evaluations that have been made after each match show improvement. The team are running more than ever.

However, the former Athletic Bilbao coach admitted that mental fatigue might be creeping into his side’s game.

“Probably, there is mental fatigue,” he continued. “I think that if we had seven more points, Marseille would be three points ahead of her adversaries. I am talking about the three last matches.

“These special things shouldn’t have happened during these last three matches. They should have finished in a different way.”

In their last match, Marseille suffered a shock 3-2 home defeat to Caen, with Nicolas Seube, Emiliano Sala and Nicolas Benezet scoring the goals to cancel out efforts from Andre Ayew and Andre-Pierre Gignac.

The Olympians have an immediate opportunity to put pressure on their rivals when they travel to Toulouse on Friday evening.
