The Daily Mail reports the defender is growing repeatedly frustrated at his bit-part role, which has seen him start just 12 matches this season for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Roma are said to be monitoring the Frenchman’s situation, despite him only signing a three-year deal when he arrived at the Etihad as a free agent in July last year.

The Mail sites sources close to Sagna as saying this doesn’t mean he will relent in City’s effort to overturn damaging deficits in both the Champions League and Premier League.

However, if he continues to fail in his quest to dislodge Pablo Zabaleta as the first choice right-back, Sagna will seek pastures new.

The Frenchman was a regular during his seven year stint with Arsenal, and left the club for City having just won the FA Cup at the tail end of last season.
