Helen Jones, an ex-Merseyside Police Constable, illegally obtained CCTV footage of a bar brawl involving Gerrard in August 2013 by flashing her ID card at a local bank manager.

Businessman Paul Lloyd had claimed Gerrard and friends had punched and kicked him after a bar disagreement spilled out onto the street, with the incident captured by security cameras.

Lloyd had claimed the Liverpool captain threw the first punch, but early in the trial it was established that Gerrard was attempting to act as a peacemaker.

Ms Jones did not deny trying to use her influence as a police officer to obtain the footage, but said she was doing it as a favour for a friend – a claim rejected by the Judge.

“You deliberately created a false impression in the mind of the bank manager that you were investigating a criminal offence,” said Judge Stuart Baker, reports ITV News.

“In fact you were on a mission to obtain that matter so that you could put it either directly or through an intermediary, who would use it for his own ends, which were nothing whatsover to do with a criminal investigation.”
