The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Premier League rivals Aston Villa, having joined last summer, but only after the Toffees had failed to agree a deal with his parent club. Cleverley has made 26 appearances for Villa, without scoring a goal.

Cleverley is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season, and with manager Louis van Gaal pursuing a cluster of high-profile signings, it appears that the England international will be looking at a permanent move in the summer.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is a keen admirer of the midfielder, having previously worked with him at their former club, Wigan Athletic, and it is believed that if Cleverley has a choice between the Merseyside club and Tim Sherwood’s side, he will chose Goodison Park as his next destination.
