Despite his San Siro side struggling for form this term Icardi has netted 16 goals in all competitions and Nerazzurri boss Roberto Mancini would be loathed to lose the Argentine in the summer but ongoing talks over a new deal have hit a dead-end, allowing Jose Mourinho a chance to lure the 22 year old to Stamford Bridge.

It had looked as though Icardi was set to sign a new four year deal, worth a modest £40k a week, but issues over the player’s image rights have led to contract talks stalling.

With Didier Drogba’s contract set to expire and Loic Remy barely getting a look-in one imagines Mourinho may see Icardi as a more viable back-up option to first choice marksman Diego Costa.
