The two capital clubs played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Parc des Princes and now renew hostilities at Stamford Bridge with both bidding to make the last eight.

Following the animosity-both on and off the pitch-of the first leg, this one should be a tempestuous affair, although it is one that Laurent Blanc’s side will approach with confidence following their superb victory over Racing Club de Lens at the weekend. PSG ran out 4-1 winners to take-temporarily at least-the top spot in the French first division.

“It is THE game of the season,” began captain Thiago Silva, speaking to L’Equipe [via Planete PSG] ahead of the midweek clash, “the motivation in the Champions League is not the same as in the championship.

“If we play all of the matches of the championship like we play those in the Champions League, we’d win them all I think…but it isn’t like that.”

The Brazil international confirmed that he was optimistic of his side’s chances heading into the match.

“Chelsea are a big team, but we have the possibility of going through. We need a result and it’s better that we’re going there in this frame of mind.”
