The Mirror has reported that although Spurs are privately confident of keeping hold of their captain, he could seek a transfer if they miss the top four for yet another season.

The 28-year-old only agreed a new, long term, five-year contract last summer but it is thought he would want to be released early in the event they cannot chase down United and Liverpool. They have finished fifth and sixth in his two seasons so far.

PSG or Real Madrid are his most likely destinations.

If he leaves it could mean Michel Vorm will be promoted to number one. He was signed last summer from Swansea with the intention of becoming Lloris’ replacement.
