The arrest took place at around 4am this morning from the man’s home, while the victim, a father of two, is in an induced coma and currently fighting for his life following the brutal incident.

Det Insp Toni Naylor from Wolverhampton Violent Crime team said, “We would like to thank the people of Wolverhampton and the wider footballing community from across the country who have already come to us with information.

“Today’s arrest is only the start of our investigation and I would also appeal to anyone who was involved in this incident to do the right thing and come forward.”

CCTV footage taken from a security camera where the attack took place shows exactly what happens in all its horror, with Mr. Cruwys tripped over as he tried to flee a gang of thugs. The group then circled the man, kicking him repeatedly around the head, even when he laid unconscious.

Wolves manager Kenny Jackett said of what happened, “Our thoughts are with the lad who was attacked and his family.”

Meanwhile, Wolves fan Ollie Floyd has set up an appeal following the incident, which has gone on to raise over £20,000.
