It was previously thought that he would sign for either Chelsea or Man United, but Liverpool and Arsenal are now the favourites to land the in-demand 23-year-old.

Firmino, who currently plays for Hoffenheim, has bagged 37 goals in 131 games since his move from Figueirense in 2011 – a record that was enough to earn him his first Brazil cap late last year.

It is thought Firmino would replace either Mario Balotelli or Santi Cazorla, both of whom are expected to move onto new pastures in the summer.

The asking price is unknown, but would probably be in the region of £15 to £20 million.

Liverpool and Arsenal both face big games this weekend; the Reds travel to Swansea on Monday night, while Arsenal entertain West Ham on Saturday afternoon.
