Lens vs. Toulouse Ligue 1 Preview: Last-chance saloon for French strugglers

There is little space for error for either of these two at the bottom of the French top table

When: 7.00 pm GMT, 14 March 2015

Where: Stade de la Licorne, Amiens

A defeat for either Racing Club de Lens or Toulouse could prove fatal as they meet in Ligue 1 on Saturday evening.

The home side currently sit 19th in the league log, having accrued only 22 points from their first 28 matches. Le TFC, by contrast, are keeping touch with those ahead of them and find themselves in 18th with 29 points.

While victory for Toulouse could see them escape the relegation zone, it would leave Lens with an almost insurmountable gap between themselves and safety.

Le TFC will be desperate to score the first goal in this contest. In their Ligue 1 fixtures to date they have won all three games when they have found the net first but, conversely, have lost all eleven when they’ve ceded the initiative to their opponents.

Having lost their last six away matches in all competitions, it does not look good for Toulouse, but Lens’ dire record may well give them encouragement.

Coach Alain Casanova has, however, lamented the side’s 6-1 capitulation to Olympique Marseille last weekend and the effect this has on both mentality and goal difference. Le TFC may be fragile, but they will at least have been defensively drilled over the last seven days.
