The Spurs boss, who has managed both Rose and United’s Luke Shaw, says Rose has now eclipsed the former Southampton man as the best English left-back at Roy Hodgson’s disposal.

“It’s our job to compare our players with other players in the same position and we believe that Danny Rose has so far been the best English left-back. That’s overall what we believe.” he said.

“We know all the stats from players in the same position. Not only the stats, what we see as well. His performances have been great.”

“Our experience with Luke Shaw was fantastic last season but now he’s in another context and at another club.”

The stats back up Pochettino’s claims; Shaw has created just nine chances all season, while Rose has made 22. He has also made 56 successful tackles, 21 more than Baines and a huge 38 more than the United man.

The 24-year-old is already considering a call up from Jamaica  who want him to represent them in the Copa America and CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer, but will await Roy’s announcement next Thursday before making his decision.
