The 24-year-old was the subject of January bids from both Jose Mourinho’s side and their Premier League rivals Manchester United, but neither matched Shakhtar’s valuation of the player – believed to be close to his £35m release clause.
Despite the interest from the English pair, it is reportedly the Spanish giants Barcelona who are close to making a bid for the playmaker. But after speaking to former teammate Willian – who left the Ukrainian club in 2013, and joined Chelsea after a brief spell in Russia with Anzhi – Costa wants a move to Stamford Bridge, rather than the Nou Camp.
“I’d be really interested in moving to Chelsea – not only because everything Willian tells me about the club, but because I think that I’d be able to achieve everything I want having someone like Jose Mourinho by my side,” Costa explained.
Costa – who would become the latest name to join the Brazilian revolution at Chelsea – has revealed that he wants to work with Mourinho because of his success throughout his managerial career.
“Now I think it’s time to try a new philosophy and I’m sure that Mourinho’s is the best around. He’s always fighting for trophies,” he added.
