The £59.7m signing from Real Madrid has proven a big disappointment for much of this season, and recent speculation has suggested he could leave after just one year with the club after attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Still, according to BBC Sport, van Gaal has stated he believed the 27-year-old would stay put, though he could not say for definite that he would.

“I think he’ll stay. His reaction and attitude after the defeat and the red card has been good,” the Dutchman said.

“Although I cannot say anything for definite about his future, I don’t think he will move.”
