The England Under-21 international has only just returned to Palace on a permanent basis after a failed year and a half at Old Trafford, where he barely managed any playing time under either David Moyes or Louis van Gaal.

Still, Zaha has shone since returning for a second spell at Palace, with Pardew not expecting him to move to United again in the future when he is a more polished player.

“I think the Man Utd thing came too early for a young player who, let’s be honest, didn’t get enough of an opportunity there,” Pardew said. He needs to get rid of it now and move on and build his career.

“There’s no reason why he can’t get back to Manchester United again as a seasoned player.”
