The Red Devils are looking in to the winger as he takes part in contract negotiations with the Portuguese giants. It is believed that agent Agustin Jimenez is attempting to lower the Argentine’s release clause from its current £43.1 million level in return for signing a new deal.

United had scouts watching the winger last week. The 24-year-old has managed 9 goals in 28 appearances for SLB this campaign, and has also caught the eye of Zenit St. Petersburg and Tottenham. However, with his contract already running until 2017 it could take a large fee to sign the player who doesn’t even feature for his national team.

As well as going head to head for this signing, Louis van Gaal and Brendan Rodgers face each other in the Premier League on Sunday. Whoever wins will be in the top four by the end of the day. They will have also put a major dent in the other’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
