The Ghanaian international is reportedly set to be leaving Ligue 1 outfit when his deal expires in the summer and the Magpies are understood to have offered the midfielder a pre-contract in a bid to fend off interest from Bundesliga sides Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg.

Ayew played a starring role at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, winning the golden boot with three goals which helped Ghana reach the final, but was ultimately unable to prevent his nation from unfortunately losing on penalties to Ivory Coast.

After joining Marseille as a youngster in 2005, he made his professional debut in August 2007 and has on to make over 150 appearances for the club scoring 56 goals in the process.

This season, Ayew had scored seven in 21 appearances in all competitions for Marseille as they look to win their first Ligue 1 title since 2010.
