The Portuguese attacking midfielder moved to City from Benfica in 2011 but left on loan for Lille this summer having struggled for game-time at the Etihad Stadium.

To date, he has made 17 appearances in Ligue 1 for Les Dogues, having scored three and contributed three assists since the season began.

Speaking to France Football, the 19-year-old has admitted that he would be interested in staying on at the Stade Pierre Mauroy next year should the opportunity present itself.

“It’s possible,” he began, “I don’t know what will happen I have a contract with Manchester City.

“Normally, I am returning to Manchester, a big club. But, I can stay one more year here. If you ask my opinion, I would say yes because I feel good here, I feel at home.

“But I also felt happy at City. The most important thing is to play. I will go wherever I can play.”

To date, Brazilian-born Lopes has featured for Portugal at every level from the U17s to the U21s, but has recently been named in the senior team’s preliminary squad for the Seleccao’s upcoming internationals.
