The Ivory Coast midfielder has been confirmed by Manuel Pellegrini as an absentee for the trip to the Hawthorns, alongside James Milner, while Aleksandar Kolarov is a doubt for the game at the weekend.

The news becomes the latest setback for the Chilean, who appears to now be fighting to keep his job at the Etihad, after a poor week saw them lose more ground in the Premier League title race, and be eliminated from the Champions League.

Their European exit against Barcelona means that City are only fighting for the league now, and a win against Tony Pulis’s side is crucial if they are to start clawing back the six point deficit between themselves and leaders Chelsea, though they will have to do it without their talisman, Toure.

The 31-year-old has been linked with a summer move away from the club, but started both the defeat to relegation candidates Burnley last Saturday, as well as the Nou Camp clash against his former team in midweek.
