The two mid-table sides meet at the Stade de la Route de Lorient on Saturday evening, looking to consolidate their positions around the half-way point of the Ligue 1 classement.

Contrary to the norm over the last few seasons, it is Nantes who hold the higher spot in the table and who head into this clash in better spirits. The Canaries have taken six points from their last three matches and beat Evian Thonon Gaillard 2-1 last weekend. Rennes, meanwhile, saw their own two-game winning streak come to an end away at LOSC Lille.

“It’s very important to have won our last two home matches,” began coach  Der Zakarian, as reported by L’Equipe, “because the classement is very tight.

“We have given ourselves a small mouthful of oxygen to head into the derby against Rennes strongly.

“I repeat it all the time: a derby is to be won. We will go there to win, as we did last [season].”
