Arsene Wenger plays down title talk as Arsenal move within four points of leaders Chelsea

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has moved to quickly play down talk of a potential title challenge after the Gunners moved to within four points of leaders Chelsea following their 2-1 victory over Newcastle United.

A brace from Olivier Giroud was crucial in the end after Newcastle forced a nervy second half with a goal from Moussa Sissoko, but Wenger’s men held on to claim a crucial three point haul.

With Man United and Liverpool preparing to face each other in a very important game, it was vital for Arsenal to win given that one team, if not both, will drop points tomorrow.

Despite Arsenal’s run of form, Wenger believes Chelsea are too far in front for his team to effectively claim that they are in the race for the Premier League title.

“Chelsea have a good security and at the moment I feel they have enough to be quite serene,” Wenger said after the game (via Arsenal.com).

“We have Manchester City in front of us but if you look behind us it is tight as well, so the important thing is to win our games. Chelsea have too much security.”

Should Chelsea fail to claim maximum points against Hull City tomorrow, Wenger may feel deep down that his team can catch Jose Mourinho’s men, with the two sides set to meet at the Emirates Stadium in April.

Mourinho has been labelled as the king of the mind games, but it seems Wenger is keen on taking him on and applying the pressure on the Blues boss.
