The Reds endured a poor first half of the season, and it reached its nadir in November when they lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace. After this defeat the 42-year-old didn’t leave his office for several days, only speaking to his coaching staff occasionally to help with the team’s problems.

It was supposedly here that he came up with the 3-4-3 formation that the Merseyside club has used to turn around their season.

The Anfield outfit haven’t conceded in their last six games and come in to their match with Manchester United in far better form than they were in when they lost 3-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the campaign.

If Rodgers’ side beat the Red Devils then they will go in to the Premier League top four. With only eight games left in the season afterwards this could be vital in the race to qualify for next year’s Champions League.
