Less than two minutes into the encounter at the Etihad Stadium referee Neil Swarbrick ordered offer Gareth McAuley, despite the fact that it was Craig Dawson who had brought down Wilfried Bony.

Pulis was left livid with the decision, stating;

‘I can’t believe he’s picked the wrong player – it’s beyond me.’

‘It is no good moaning about referees,’

‘We have to find a way to help referees out I would definitely call for managers to have two calls each and every game when there is 30 seconds and they can have a video link up with people upstairs who can watch it on video.’ Pulis added.

Here’s footage of the incident in question.

Whilst the decision was undoubtedly bizarre, the mistake made could well work out in Pulis’s favour.

One imagines that McAuley’s red card would now have to be rescinded with no powers available to transfer any potential ban to Dawson.
