Brazilian footballing legend Pele has claimed Barcelona golden boy Lionel Messi is better than Real Madrid’s Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico clash.
Both players have won multiple Ballon d’Ors, but Messi edges out Portugal and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo with four titles, compared to his three.
Pele believes the two aren’t directly comparable all the time though, and quoted in BBC Sport, the three-time World Cup winner said, “At the moment people always try to compare Ronaldo with Messi [but] it’s a different style.
“They are two great players, but in the past 10 years the best in the world was Messi.”
Ronaldo and Messi have won many league titles, as well as personal awards, with Messi winning six La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.
Ronaldo, on the other hand, has three Premier League titles from his time with Manchester United, one La Liga title and a Champions League title with each of his clubs.
74-year-old Pele has changed his tune since January 2014 when he judged Cristiano Ronaldo as superior to Messi.
